What Ogden feels like
Ogden is Weber County's largest city, and it has its own identity. There's a historic, walkable downtown (25th Street) that's seen a lot of revitalization over the past decade, a strong arts and food scene, and a noticeably more affordable housing market than Davis or Salt Lake County. It's also home to Weber State University, which shapes both the local economy and the feel of parts of the city.
Commute and location
Ogden sits along I-15 and has its own FrontRunner station. Still, commuting to downtown Salt Lake from Ogden is a longer haul, often 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. I think Ogden works best if you work locally, work remotely, or are willing to trade some commute time for a lower price and a different kind of lifestyle.
Mountain access
In my opinion, this is one of Ogden's most underrated advantages. You get quick access to Ogden Valley and the Snowbasin and Powder Mountain ski resorts, plus a lot of hiking and mountain biking in the foothills right at the edge of the city. It's closer than most of what Salt Lake County offers, and without the traffic.
Schools and community
Ogden is served by the Ogden School District, which is separate from the Davis and Weber districts that cover other nearby cities. If schools are a priority, I'd confirm the boundaries for any specific address.
Typical price range
The median single-family sale price in Ogden was $390,000 for January through September 2026 (621 sales, UtahRealEstate.com MLS). That's a lot more affordable than Davis or Salt Lake County, and it's a big part of why buyers look here.
Who this fits
I think Ogden fits buyers who care most about affordability, want a city with its own downtown character instead of a typical suburb, and want the mountains close by. It's a harder fit if you need a short commute into downtown Salt Lake.
What makes it worth living in, not just visiting
Historic 25th Street is the heart of it. Restored early-1900s buildings are now filled with restaurants, galleries, and boutiques, and it's lively most nights of the week. Union Station sits at the end of the street, with four museums including the Utah State Railroad Museum and the Browning Firearms Museum. The George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park has over 100 full-sized dinosaur sculptures, and Roosters Brewing Company is a well-loved local spot for a meal.
The Ogden River Parkway and Bonneville Shoreline Trail give you serious outdoor time without leaving the city. In winter, Snowbasin and Powder Mountain are a short drive up the canyon.
Numbers to know: Ogden sits in Weber County, with a median single-family sale price of $390,000 for January through September 2026 (UtahRealEstate.com MLS). These shift with the market, so treat this as a starting orientation, not a quote. I'll pull current comps for any address or neighborhood you're considering.
If Ogden looks like a fit, or you're still comparing it against other Davis and Weber County cities, I'm happy to talk through the tradeoffs that matter to you: commute, school boundaries, budget, timing, all of it.
